PLCU College Scholarship Competition
Each year, we help deserving students defray the costs of a college education by awarding three $2,500 college scholarships to outstanding high school seniors. The 2011 scholarship recipients are:
Keegan Mann a senior at San Pasqual High School in Escondido, is a step closer to his dream of studying science in college. He has been accepted to the University of California, Berkeley, where he hopes to meet students who “share my passion for science, engineering and technology.” It’s been a lifelong passion; he started studying computers at age seven, and has taken several technical courses outside of his regular studies.

Kelsey Tibbitts will leave El Cajon to attend Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, CO this fall. Kelsey is an outstanding student, but is already looking beyond the academics. “My goal is to leave a ‘footprint of compassion’ on the Earth,” she says. “I have learned that the greatest personal fulfillment comes from serving simply for the joy of bettering the lives of others.”

Joshua Yang is a University City High School valedictorian, and will attend UC San Diego where he plans to major in biology. He wants to become a rheumatologist and clinical researcher, specializing in the treatment of arthritis. To prepare for his life’s work, he has volunteered at the Arthritis Foundation Pacific Region for five years. "I know how urgent the need is to find innovative therapeutics for this disabling disease,” he says. “I want to be part of finding a cure for arthritis.”
